Hey everyone! Thanks for coming and reading with me as I am blessed enough to go to the coast of South Africa, right on the Indian Ocean. I’m posting right now from my phone, which as many of y’all know does not work on its best days so bear with me :).
I’m still in atlanta, in a super sketch hotel right by the airport, sleeping in my last bed for a month. Though in typical adventures in missions fashion (those of you who went with me to nicaragua can testify to this..), I still know very little about what I’m doing in South Africa or where I’m going, I know the Lord is leading me there and I am so excited!
Today I started a devotional called Closer to Jesus that I got at trail west, a younglife camp in buena vista, colorado that I went to for my senior trip. The entry today really resonated with me, telling the story of Zacchaeus as he followed Jesus recklessly and with abandon. I don’t know about you guys, but pretty much all I knew about Zaccheus came from that Sunday school song, you know the one that goes, “Zacchaeus was a wee little man, a wee little man was he…” But Zacchaeus truly was an exceptional man, one from whom we can learn so much! As I leave the states to live in another country for a month, I can only hope to live with as much faith as this small man, following Jesus’s call with no hesisitation despite what is culturally accepted or who I was or how I acted in the past. I often feel as though instead of stepping out in faith I’m more willing to resist change, staying “comfortable but restless, alive but lonely, surviving but missing something in life, unwilling to open up to Jesus, or to surrender to him, hesitant to give up control.” As I get on the flight tomorrow, I just ask for prayer to completely surrender my time in Africa to God, following the plans he has for me. As it says in Luke 19:10, “the son of man came to SEEK and SAVE what was lost:” I hope to be the hands and feet of Christ in Africa, so I also ask for prayer over me and my team for discernment and boldness to find out what Gods will is for us and to do it. Ill post again soon!
