I Thought I was coming to South Africa to love on some kids and tell people about Jesus, about the one True God whose great love saves us.
Don't misunderstand, that's what our team here in Coffee Bay has been doing for the past two weeks. Our contact here is Mandy Weschta, she directs a program that she started in Cape Town called "Volunteer in South Africa" and her family owns a backpacker's campground named Bomvu Paradise where we are camping out. The property also includes a bar and has a dark history of festivals with a lot of darkness and drugs, so the presence of 30 plus followers of Christ has DEFINETLY changed the atmoshpere in this village greatly.
I have been going to the soccer ministry for two hours in the afternoons and playing with the younger boys and girls who can't keep up with the main soccer game going on. The language barrier is difficult because the only english the younger children know is how to say their name and age. But I sit with them and sing songs, or throw the ball around. I try to give out hugs and love in any way that I can. And I pray. I pray that God would open their eyes to His truth and love, that He would show them joy in dark places, hope when it seeems that life may never improve. I pray for the Lord to give them visions of bigger things.
Who knew that God would bring me halfway around the world just to be closer to His heart for the lost and broken children?
Please be in prayer over the next week as we wrap up the surfing and soccer ministry that the kids would hear and be receptive to the Gospel. Also we have been made aware that there is confusion because there are witch doctor "churches" posing as Christian, pray AGAINST this evil, that God's truth will be made known. This coming thursday and friday, July 21 and 22 we will be baptizing the kids from the ministry and any adults in the community that want to accept Jesus, again pray that they would know and understand what it means and that the seeds planted would be grown to maturity. Pray for Christain leaders to raised up in Coffee Bay.
Blessings in Christ,
Sarah Doiron
