My Camp Sermon and Week 1

Fellow Americans (awesome supporters),

I wish I could share more with you about the experiences I have had this week but I will try to put them in the following words. Starting last weekend our team began training on how to aid those with vision impairments and we basically planned out a week-long camp from there. On Monday I spoke on the topic of our week which was putting our identity in Christ. I gave bits of my testimony and shared with them that difficult and less than perfect circumstances are usually what the Lord uses in order to grow and show us who He is. I was able to share with them the importance of Scripture and my two life verses, Philippians 1:20 and Matthew 6:33. God really used this talk to set the tone for the entire week and we were able to minister to all 20 campers on a very personal note. When camp ended yesterday morning many of the campers quickly found me after Connect (our daily worship services) and asked if they could write down prayer requests because they want Team Unveiled Pursuit to continue praying for them because they now recognize the power of God through prayer… AWESOMENESS!

After looking back on this past week I really see why America is known as the land of opportunity. I have heard some of the most unbelievable stories from the guys and gals in our camp and what they have had to experience. Poverty is the norm, heartbreak is the usual, and a lack of reliance on the one true God is much less than ordinary. Many of our campers were Zionists, local African who mesh together Christian beliefs with tribal religions and ancestor worship. Our team definitely had to fight the enemy's attacks in the midst of this confusion and the Holy Spirit really moved in many campers' lives.

Our team is now gearing up for the second camp on the South African coast and this week we will have adults with acquired brain injuries attending. Please pray that the Lord renews all of our minds and hearts on our weekend off. We are worn out from a hectic but encouraging week and are very happy about our break for a couple days. Thanks for keeping up and remember that I'm still journaling and taking more pictures for you all to see!

Until next time,

Wesley
