After a full week of traveling, we finally arrived to Cape Town last Friday! It was definitely exhausting, but a blessing to have time to rest and spend some time getting to know the people I will be living with for the next month. Now we are in Ocean View for the week helping with "Holiday Club," a Bible-based camp for kids and teens. The organization putting it on, called Living Hope, is faithfully doing God's work by serving this community by providing sustainable reasources and education to the next generation. It has been a blessing to be with them and see the impact that they have on these students.
Our team is spilt up into pairs and are staying with host families for the week. Aunty Katie is my host mom; she and her family are absolutely incredible (and she has an adorable 4 yr old grandson!) . They have opened up their home to us and made a part of their family. They really believe that "everything we have is a given from God, so we, too, will freely give." It is nothing but evidence of God's own love being poured out on us.
It's hard to say what it is that I'm learning here–after all, it's only been my first two days of ministry. But there's one thing for sure: "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30) Over and over again, I am shocked and encouraged by the humble faithfulness of the believers we have met. There is a reverence for God that I have never seen before. It is a reminder that we are not here for ourselves, we'e not even here for this community, we are here so that God can be glorified.
Please be keeping our safety and God's will/work in your prayers!
