God uses the few

"God uses those who are weak in nature and few in number to make his name famous." (a quote I heard in a sermon and really stuck with me)

Sunday July 15, 2012 I was asked to preach to Victory church in Kabuga, Kigali, Rwanda. I prayed about what I was going to tell this African church since I have never even preached in any church before.

The Lord put in on my heart to tell the church to be bold in preaching the gospel to those around them and let them know they didn't have to travel the world like us to make a difference and to be missionaries.

The Lord also put it on my heart to let them know that God can use the few in number to make a big impact somewhere. I listened to two podcast to help with my sermon preached by my college pastor back home during Overflow (our college ministry).

I told the congragation about the story of Gideon and the 300 men God chose. I also talked about Acts and the disciples and what they did was so simple but so many people came to know the Lord.

Here is an outline of what I talked about this past Sunday:

Coming to Rwanda I didn't know exactly what seven american girls can do to impact the kingdom of God here in Rwanda. God soon helped me to realized that He didn't have to use us, but chose to and chooses to use the few to do big things.

We are normal people just like the men he chose to be Jesus' twelve disciples. They were tax collectors, fishers and even His family members. God used his children, the normal people to make His name famous where ever they may be.

In Acts, God used these apostles to preach the gospel to Jerusalem in a little tiny room and by the end of that day 3,000 we saved. They continued to teach, fellowship, sharing meals, and praying just like my team of girls do. I pray that many people are saved because of our obedience to the Lord by coming here and doing just like his disciples did so long ago.

Know that you can do just like we are doing. When I feel like what can just a few girls do I think of the story of Gideon and the disciples of Christ.

I then went on and talked about Gideon found in Judges and how the Lord used what started as 34,000 men to go against 135,000 men ended up as 300 men going against this huge army, but God gave them the strength and the power to claim vicotry even though there was only a few of them:

God uses the few so that His glory is made known, but there is a lot of work to be done here in Rwanda, in America, and all over the world.

What would it look like in Kabuga if we did just what the disciples of Christ did in Acts and to start a movement and change in Rwanda?

Wouldn't you want Rwanda to be known for its love of Christ and not to be know anymore for the genocide that happened in 1994?

We read Matthew 9:37-38 and talked about how much there is to do here and everywhere and how I didn't realize how much work that needed to be done until I left for a while then went back home and saw how many people didn't know Jesus like I did.

"The workers are few, so will you be one of the few?" I asked.

Some of Jesus' last words were that found in Matthew 28:19: To go and make disciples in all nations… I read that verse and told them that going could just be going to their neighbors and to work and to their family and telling them about Jesus, and teaching them what it means to be a disciple and telling them that the Holy Spirit would be with us where ever we went.

This is a command for every follower of Christ, this is why we live and this is why me and these six other girls are here in Rwanda.

Sometimes God calls us to be right where we are and sometimes he calls us to leave our families and friends to help others. Whereever you are, make that your mission field.

So what can you do today after church is over to make an impact where you are for the Kingdom? Will you be one of the few that makes God's name famous?

Romans 1:16 says, "For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ (Gospel). It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes…"

If someone in your family was healed of AIDS, Cancer, or any other sickness wouldn't you want to share this with the whole world? So GO share this good news about how their souls can be healed and how Jesus died for you, to save you!

So do not be ashamed and Go!

Go make Jesus famous and do something today! God can use you!

Three women came up to the front and gave their life to Christ that day at church. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I have been so blessed.

I hope this message also has made an impact in your life as if has been on my heart for so long! We are the children of God we are not useless we are not just anyone. We are children of the light, the creater of the universe and more. With Him we can do anything according to His will even by ourselves.

So go, be bold, and share the Love of Jesus where ever you are right now. Don't wait there is so much work to do!

"Share the Gospel. When neccessary, use words."

In Christ,

Sharel
